Ambit

The Ambit range had a long development period due to lockdown. A design that I thought had been finished, I returned to and reworked - in fact remade - all my designs start their life as studio pieces made in my workshop.
Central to all my designs is a desire to give widest possible choice, whilst staying true to my sense of what is lastingly pleasurable to use, both visually and functionally.
The central themes of Ambit are contrasts and boundaries. The contrast between light and dark and between glossy and matt and the border that separates the two.
Then we arrive at just what makes a good cup, mug or beaker for drinking. I have to confess to being guided essentially by my own tastes here, a wider, more quickly cooling mug for my breakfast coffee - a taller, slightly more capacious mug for my tea, which I drink more slowly. Cold drinks just shouldn’t be served in a handled piece! A beaker is so versatile - drinks, nibble, desserts, plants or simply decorative.
