Tell us about your business
Okiki Skincare is a West African skincare brand founded by my Mum and me in 2016. Our origins date back to my late grandmother who use to make and sell her own soap back in Lagos. A few years after she passed my Mum started making soaps and I truly believe this was her way of connecting with her Mum. I initially started working with Mum on Okiki by attending markets with her and helping her sell her products but my involvement amplified when she made me a facial soap bar our Best-selling “Lolu Facial Soap” for my face. After I cried on the phone to her about my bad teenage acne. This soap bar changed my face for the better and it made me believe my Mum truly has a skill for formulation.
Tell us about the products you have entered?
These gift sets mean a lot to me! The Lolu gift set is named after me, it is a set that includes everything you need to relax whilst also being great to use individually. I basically was explaining my Sunday night routine to my mum and she made me a package that included everything I use. The baths salts / candle for the bubble bath, I like to prep by skin by washing it before using a face mask and this set has it all!
The Oro gift set is the gift set to get you through both the seasons. Our candle has 60+ burn time which is perfect for the winter season and the diffuser will last you through Spring / Summer. Oro refers to the Oro Forest in Ijebu, Nigeria; we wanted to bring the richness of the forest and the relaxing nature of the earth into the homes of our lovely customers, so that you can experience a special moment of peace to yourself in your home.
Why did you choose to enter the GOTY competition? have you entered in the past and has it helped your brand grow?
GOTY, we first heard about it we went to the Home & gift trade show, and all the traders were raving about this award, our trader neighbour had won a GOTY award and was explaining how much it had helped his business. We wanted to give it a try and hope that by winning it we will be able to expand our reach!
What other products will you be bringing to market in 2023
We are launching a new diffuser range and packaging! The new diffuser scents are a combination of our most popular scents, perfect for those who want their house to smell divine all day long!
