Product in the Final: Grow Your Own Garden Gift Bags

Congratulations on being a finalist! How does it feel to be recognised in this year’s Gift of the Year awards?

We are absolutely over the moon, cannot quite believe we have reached the final for the second year running. The fact that so many judges must have looked at it and like what they saw means the world to us, and reaffirms our belief in our brand and products. So looking forward to another brilliant night out at the awards ceremony too - time to get another sparkly dress!

Can you tell us a little about your brand and the inspiration behind your successful product?

Our aim is to get children and families gardening together and growing their own food. Our kits promote this in a fun way, and are easy for beginner gardeners. The inspiration came simply from eating a pizza one night and realising that the toppings are really quite easy to grow at home!

What makes your product special, and why do you think it stood out to the judges?

I hope it stood out initially because of its bright, attractive and plastic-free packaging. Once it caught their eye I hope the contents and the fact the gift would last for many months and provide a novel, rewarding and educational experience for a little gardener and their family.

Who is your product designed for, and what kind of reaction have you had from customers so far?

Designed for children from ages 4-10 (but we know adults love it too!) Customers have loved it and it has sold well on our website. One local council loved it so much they purchased nearly 200 kits for disadvantaged families to do during the Christmas holidays. Very proud of that one.

What trends or themes do you think are shaping the gifting industry right now?

Trend towards lower cost gift items which will last longer.

How has being shortlisted, and nowbeing a finalist impacted your brand so far, and what do you hope to achieve from the awards?

Being shortlisted has given our brand much more exposure than we could have gained for ourselves. We have had enquiries from national retail chains and been contacted by potential licensors to develop new products. All very exciting!

What exciting plans do you have for the future?

We have a new range of products based on the 'Little Nature Explorers" concept by artist Emma Lawrence coming out in a couple of weeks.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received (or given), and why?

Any kind of plant for the garden - roses that come back year after year and give so much pleasure to me and everyone else who sees them.

With sustainability, education and fun at the heart of the brand, Gardening for Kids is sowing the seeds of a greener future. Being a finalist for the second year in a row is proof that their message — and their products — are making a real impact in the gifting industry.
