Entering the Gift of the Year awards couldn’t be simpler. All you will need to do is;

  • complete the online form at the red 'Enter Now' link below (available from December 07)
  • pay the appropriate administration fee by completing your credit card details
  • upload a photo of your product or card (naming photo by category & product name)

then wait to see whether you have been shortlisted! 

The information you provide could be printed in the 'Winners' promotional brochure if you are successful, so please ensure that contact information and product image are the ones you want retailers to see.  Do let us know if you have any questions or comments about this (contact the GA).

FAQ

How much does it cost to enter?

A small administration fee is payable to enter the competition.  One entry is charged at £30 plus VAT for GA members and £45 plus VAT for non members.  All additional entries are charged at £25 plus VAT for GA members and £40 plus VAT for non members.

How do I enter my greeting cards or giftwrap?

The Card & Wrap category is NOT shortlisted from electronic images (ie the judging panel will view and handle all card entries at the second round of judging).  Please enter online as for other categories including an uploaded photo of your card or card range then ALSO SEND your card samples before 9th May 2008 to Gift of the Year, Federation House, 10 Vyse St, Birmingham, B18 6LT.

When will I know if I am shortlisted?

Shortlisted companies will be notified by email on 25 April 2008 and asked to send product samples for the second round of judging - taking place on 15 May 2008 at the British Jewellery, Giftware and Finishing Federation headquarters in Birmingham.  NB the Card & Wrap category is not shortlisted so all entrants should send their products samples as below.

What should I do if I am shortlisted?

The deadline for receipt of shortlisted product samples and Card & Wrap entries is 9 May 2008
 
Up to 6 items may be sent per product range.

It is imperative that items and boxes are correctly labelled.  Download your address label here as unmarked boxes will not be opened. 

Please label EACH ITEM with a tag or sticker;
- Entry code (as per your online entry)
- Product Name
- Company Name
- Price (Trade and RRP inc. VAT)
Please label EACH BOX using the downloadable label;
- Entry Code
- Product Name
- Company Name
- Either RTN or BEN SOC

(RTN - if you want product sample returned to you after judging – postage costs charged to you. 
BEN SOC - if you wish to kindly donate product to the Benevolent Society for fundraising use)

Please note that the GA is unable to accept responsibility for the late arrival of entries or breakage of products at any stage. 

What happens to my product?

Judges will consider product samples in detail and choose a Winner and 2 Highly Commended items per category according to the following criteria;
  • Design innovation and originality
  • Quality of manufacture
  • Sales potential and commercial viability
  • Presentation and packaging
  • Customer appeal and value
  • Retail profit potential
  • Marketing and merchandising support to the trade and the consumer
  • X/WOW factor
 
Winning and Highly Commended products will be kept for 12 months by the GA, for photographing and showcasing.
 
If you are not a Winner or Highly Commended entrant, you can choose to donate your product to the BJGF benevolent society or to have your product returned to you (postage costs charged to you).
